Portland Public Library celebrates Take Your Child To The Library Day

Saturday, February 7, 2015 – 11:00am to 3:30pm
for children birth through 12 years old
Portland, Maine - The Portland Public Library will join other libraries throughout the country and participate in the fourth annual “Take Your Child to the Library” Day on Saturday, Feb. 7th. This is a nationwide campaign dedicated to bringing more children into their local libraries. We will be hosting a number of special events throughout the day in the Sam L. Cohen Children’s Library, including:

11:00 11:45   Family Yoga with Spiral Tree Yoga & Wellness Studio (Ages 1-5 with parent/caregiver)

Join us for an introduction to yoga for the family through simple movement, breathing, songs, stories
and music.

11:00 – 3:00   StoryWalk™ (All Ages)

The StoryWalk ™ of Mary Newell DePalma’s picture book Bow-Wow Wiggle-Waggle will be set up throughout the library. Children will be able to move along and read along with the story. StoryWalk™ combines the healthy activities of walking and movement with the healthy activity of reading a book!

12:00 – 1:00   Craft (All Ages)

                           Materials will be available for a Do It Yourself Craft –

1:00 -   2:00     Members of the Maine Squeeze Accordion Ensemble (All Ages)

The Maine Squeeze is an accordion ensemble who play eclectic ethnic music from around the world, as well as original tunes. They enrich the world of children with  traditional music, encourage participation and make learning fun.
