Backyard Vegetable Gardening‏

Camden/Rockport, Maine - Gardener John Fromer will lead a presentation on getting the most out of the backyard vegetable garden at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, February 10 at 12:00 noon.

With a relatively short growing season and shallow glacial soil, growing vegetables in Maine can be a challenge.  The talk will include all the basics for growing great vegetables, including site placement, soil health,  and choosing the right varieties for different types of gardens and interests. Fromer will also speak about proper management tips for plantings, including crop rotation, integrated pest management, feeding and fertilizing, staking, weeding, and disease control. With these tips, any beginning gardener will be able to stand back and watch it grow.

John Fromer is a Maine Master Gardener who lives in Appleton.

The Winter Talk series is co-sponsored by Allen Insurance & Financial, and Farley & Son Landscaping. Tuesday Talks are open to the public for $5, with free admittance for Merryspring members.
